Wow, y'all are such amazing artists! It's going to be so tough only choosing three favourites! Great work, everyone! :)

J. L. Mbewe said...

I echo The Writer of Dream Things sentiments. Love the variety!

Kay J. Fields said...

I have to say the same. I started scrolling through and thought 'Ooh, that's the one I'll pick...no wait, that one is so cool too...oh, and wow, that is awesome...but what about that one...?' (and etc.) Great job, artists. You amaze and shame me. :D

Hannah said...

Oh my goodness. this is INCREDIBLE! What an awesome turnout this year!!!!!!

Becky said...

I'm sitting here with eyes wide and jaw dropped! Wow..artists, you're work is breathtaking! Well done!!!

Hannah said...

Now I get to go through and talk about each one!!! :D

Wedding Vows- So very sweet, Beka! And I love the detail! There's Una's ring around her husband's neck!

Una and Felix- Elaborate costumes! Poor Felix. :D

Unveiled Illusion- Very eye-catching! The colors are brilliant, and the background is gorgeous. The young lady models Rosie very well!

Una- Gwenn, this is lovely! Una is so very, very sweet looking. This is beautiful!

The Dragon's Kiss- Wonderful portrayal of the scene! The Dragon is huge compared to poor little Una!

Tender- Very sweet scene. I notice, of course, that he has his cloak around her. And look! The moon is nearly full!

Quench My Fire- Most dramatic. Very nice sweeping movements. Dragons are definitely fell beings.

Deep Dreams- Beautifully done! The colors are great, and I love the scenes of her dreams.

Sir Eanrin- An incredible portrait! I love the eyes and ever so slightly pointed ears.

Alone, But Unforgotten- Very pretty indeed! And excellent perspective.

Lionheart's Venture to the Mountain- Very good trees, Molly! And I love the sunshine coming down. I also noticed the figures on Bloodbiter's Wrath!

Rest of my comments to come...

Taisia Tinúviel said...

Yikes! Top three?! Ummmm...okay. Here's number one.

"Belle Loves Heartless Too"
By: Gwen Phillips

(I liked quite of few of this artist's drawings, but I thought I'd just pick my favourite of her's and then go on to a different artist)

Number two...

"Daydream"
By: SaraLyn (beautiful!)

And the last one...

"Guardian of Goldstone Wood"
By: The Alpha Jan (brilliant! :) )

Hannah said...

Now for the rest!

Mourning His Death- Very nice perspective! I'm assuming that darkness down there is the Midnight?

Epic Standoff- Gorgeously Drawn! The shading is terrific! How tiny the wood thrush is to the Dragon's eye.

Imraldera Speaks- YEY! I'm so glad you drew this scene, Beka! When I read this in the book, I burst out sobbing. Your picture is great! Imraldera is so lovely even when ragged!

Guardian of Goldstone Wood- I see Anne Elisabeth has grown wings! This picture made me smile! Great job! : )

I Still Must Sing- Very nice! I like the costume very much.

Imraldera- What a beautiful drawing of Imraldera! You did very well!

His Haven- I really like the idea of the Haven being in trees like that. It's so true that some places in the forest seem made to be havens. : )

Lume and Hymlume- Stunning color!!! So very, very beautiful Jennete! I love the robes of the sun. The fire really does look hot.

Walk Before Me- Dramatic contrast, and great message! There's the Asha Lantern shining bright in the Netherworld!

Belle Loves Heartless Too- Ohmygoodess, this made laugh! I absolutely adore this, Gwen! Such a fun idea!

Nothing to Fear- Again, Beka, wonderful job! Imraldera is soooo pretty and that's a great scene. They both look so tired.

Always Come Back for You- This. Is. INCREDIBLE! Wow! I think my jaw is still on the floor. Such a dramatic place to share your first kiss. What mediums did you use? This just stunning.

A Parumvir Chef- Awwww, very well done, Molly! I love this adorable picture! And nice job on the reflection in the mirror. Excellent detail!

Daydream- This is SO pretty! I love how sweet Una looks, the sun rays add a very nice effect!

Advertising Graphic- What fun! "But bring your weapons"! Very cute. :D

When You Imagine- And the author herself appears in the artwork again! This is absolutely breathtaking. Anne is amazingly well done, and all the characters are great. Simply beautiful!

Angry Bird- Ha, Ha! Gleamdren looks so put out! And there's her bird perch in the back! Very, very cute.

Aethelbald- Once more, Gwen, you amaze me with your incredible portraits! This one is just great. I love the eyes and the clothes. And the handwriting!

The Wood- What a lovely picture! I want to find that place in the woods. Most enchanting. I would be there, if I was a fairy.

ChuMana's Demesne- And the lady herself appears! I wondered if she would rise up in this contest. And here she is. Great idea!

Aethelbald and the Dragon Girl- Very nice. I like how Una is shrouded in shadow.

A Song So Old- Very touching scene. Poor Imraldera looks so in need of comfort.

The Human Dragon Movie- SQUEAL! A movie??? This was so cool and so well done! The voices were great, Una was adorable, the dragon was dramatic, and the ending was terrific! Amazing!

Wow. This was an magnificent array of artwork this year! Such talent from everyone! Anne, you must be so thrilled. This was so much fun!!!

Anna C. said...

Ack! Can we choose more than three? This is so hard! They are all beautiful...

Gwen said...

It is incredibly hard to choose only three! Some of these works are absolutely breathtaking! I have nowhere to start choosing a favorite! Everyone deserves to win!

Hannah, your work is stunning--as always. The Poster is positively amazing. I love how you have given a commentary on every piece! I agree with all of your sentiments!

Everyone has done so well, I know it will be hard to choose whom to vote for! Good work ,everyone!

Rebekah said...

To everyone: AMAZING!!!!!
Ugh, how am I supposed to pick??
And, sorry, guess Ruth and I should have said, but the pictures 'Mourning His Death', and 'I Still must Sing' were Moonblood.
Anyway, we just wanted to say.

Hannah said...

Thank you, Gwen. I really loved your artwork too! It WILL be so hard to vote.

@Rebekah: I wondered if they were from Moonblood. : )

@Marisa Miranda: I love your beautiful drawings of Gleamdren, Una, and Rosie! Very pretty!

Courtney said...

Wow. There are some really cool pieces in here! I see that I am not the only computer artist here.

By the way... my last name is Dusenbury not Dunesbury. =D

Bookishqueen said...

I love these! I know what ones are my favorites though.

Meredith said...

Oh, my. Such incredible talent! Wonderful work by each and every person. And, I must say, for someone to actually do a movie! Wow! I got chills. Thank you all and God bless. Picking three is going to be a real challenge. Thankfully, all of the pieces are on the blog to be enjoyed.

To Ms. Hannah: Thanks for describing the pictures in your comments. Really helped me to visualize them.

Hannah said...

Hi Meredith!

If you haven't voted yet, and if you don't have someone else describing them to you, I could describe the pictures in greater detail. I wouldn't mind at all! :)

John said...

My favorite is Belle Loves Heartless Too - it brings together this great book and my favorite princess.

Second is Una by Gwen Phillips and

Third is Sir Eanrin

Christa said...

Boy, we really have a bigger selection of art this year.

Hannah, your artwork is amazing as always! My favorite has to be "Fey Fight." I love how you portrayed that showdown. I also like "The Far Side", "Goldstone Poster", and "Dragonwitch Poster." Actually, that's all your artwork so I'll just say I like anything you draw. ;)

My jaw dropped when I saw Always Come Back For You!!! I remember when Anne Elisabeth asked readers if they wanted to portray this scene possibly for the contest and I didn't think anyone would actually do it!! Wow!!!

Jill Stengl said...

This artwork is so impressive! Every single entry has something to bring a smile or provoke thought. Love the dark chandeliers and rich color in "Unveiled Illusion," the details in "When You Imagine" and in Hannah's posters, the beautiful portraits, the amusing graphic, the characters and scenes as viewed by so many artistic minds! And the animation just blows me away--that opening scene of the dragon crashing on the beach is incredible (I've watched it several times). And Melanie Morgan's dragon--Wow! I know I'm leaving out some favorites--every piece is delightful. Very hard to pick only three favorites. . .

Meredith said...

To Hannah:

Thanks so very much for your kind offer. I'd love to hear your descriptions. There's quite a lot of art work displayed, so don't feel as if you have to describe every nuance of the pictures. There is no hurry. Feel free to email me at any time: mlb3v@hotmail.com I hope that you have a wonderful weekend. I'll be gone for a few days, so if I don't respond right away know that I'll definitely get back to you. God bless.

Hannah said...

To Meredith: I most certainly will send you my descriptions! I love the chance to practice creating a word picture. :)

To Clara: YAYYY! You sent in a picture after all! I was so sad when I didn't see your photography. This picture is LOVELY! What awesome effects!

Hannah said...

To Ian: Whoops! I think I left the photographer out! Thank you for taking the stunning picture of Clara!

Unknown said...

What a wonderful assortment of mediums. All of the entries show talent.

I think it might be easier to decide if there were different categories, perhaps by medium, book or type (i.e. character portrait, poster,) ?

Well done artists, you should be proud of your work.

J. L. Mbewe said...

Thanks Hannah! I love how you went through and commented on all the artwork.

Are all of yours done by colored pencil? Sometimes, they look like oil pastels or something. I think your Fey Fight is one of my favorites. The detail, the light and dark contrast... it kind of reminds me of a certain famous painter. :-)

Y'all are amazing! I would love to have done more, but time was limited and I couldn't get the canopy out of my head. ha!

Clara said...

Thanks Hannah! Unfortunately, I was terribly confused about the Art Contest...which is why this one was late and not at all what my brother and I had planned! Ian is quite the artist as well, and he LOVED every one of your drawings:)

You are incredible, Hannah! As is everyone else!!! Now I have to decide who to vote for....

Rae said...

Agh! There are SO MANY GOOD ONES!!! There are six or more that I wish could all tie for first place. ;) It's really spectacular to see everyone's different styles, mediums, and use of light, dark, and vibrant colors.

Hannah said...

To Jennette: Thank you! And yes, my two poster are done with colored pencil, but the paintings are done with acrylics.

To Clara: Awww, I wish we could have seen what you and and your brother had planned! I'm glad Ian enjoyed my pictures!

Gwen said...

Hannah, I just noticed that Monster is on "The Far Side"--I love it!

Molly said...

To Hannah: I just adore the elf in the Goldstone Wood poster. It reminds me a lot of a Lord of the Rings elf, which I absolutely go nuts over!
Wouldn't you know it I think I might print and add this to my drawings folder--one side has my drawings in it, and the other side has yours, for inspiration and things of the like. :) You're awesome.

SaraLyn--I just love 'Angry Bird' and 'Daydream'!

Kathleen's drawing of 'When You Imagine' simply blows my mind.

Clara and Ian, you know I like yours. :)

Everyone is just SO talented. I couldn't believe how tough this voting business could be! How judges choose, I know not.

Molly said...

Also, Miss Anne Elisabeth: Will you put any pictures from named books into fan art on your Heartless, Veiled Rose, etc. page? Just wanted to know, because I would be thrilled to contribute to the page, even if it has to be a different one from the contest. :)

Hannah said...

Oh thank you, Molly, that is very sweet! : )
If you are speaking of the elf in the red cape holding the rose...well then, that is actually King Vahe...the goblin!
Which by the way, Anne, I love how you made the goblins beautiful by illusion. Goblins being extremely beautiful (even if its fake) is just so different from most stories!

Molly said...

Ahhhh. King Vahe looks splendid! Not what I imagined him looking like, but better. I like it. :)

The Alpha Jan said...

It was both an honor and a privilege to paint Anne Elisabeth Stengl in a way that I've seen nobody else has. Not to mention, this series is a breath of fresh air.

With Anne's permission, I am selling the original painting since the profits are going to charity, tithe, and taxes. I am not making a single cent with this painting instead hoping it will help for a good cause. It is a 36" X 36" acrylic on canvas painting by the way.

I love a lot of the artwork here especially the video and the works done by Hannah and Gwen. I personally hope one of the younger people who entered win this contest though. I am just thankful Anne allowed my painting into the contest even though I really don't mind winning or not. It truly is a blessing to see so much talent in one place.

May the Father Grant You a Blessed Day through the Son!
Alpha OUT!

Rae said...

Hannah, I was trying to figure out who the hooded person in your "Tales of Goldstone Wood Poster" is. I thought it was Diarmid, but I wasn't sure. And I think the castle in the background is Oriana-- because of the terraces-- but where is the waterfall from? I think I have everything else in there figured out. What a stunning poster! You could make a career of designing book covers and movie posters; your work is gorgeous. :)

Hannah said...

The hooded person is our own poor little Una as a dragon girl! Diarmid gave her the hood. Made of dragon skin. Yuck!
And yep, that's Palace Oriana. The waterfall is the Fionnghuala Lynn at Rudiobus. If you look carefully you can see the top of the stairs where Bebo brought Lionheart below the moon.
Thank you so much! That would be a VERY fun career! :D

SaraLyn said...

Wow, i just love all these pictures, can't wait for Thursday!

Melanie M said...

Hello everyone.

I'm honestly so impressed with all the artwork and I feel so blessed to "compete" against you all! It's so amazing to see everyone's contributions! I would really love to comment on everyone's work, but I'm a little busy at the moment so I won't be able to do it before the winner is chosen. I'd really like to do it when I get the chance though!

Hannah - Thank you so incredibly much! It was really awesome to see your stuff too! Actually, I drew the whole thing in Photoshop using a Bamboo drawing tablet (can be found at Best Buy). So it's a digital painting. It takes a little while to get used to but now it's much faster and easier to do artwork. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks again!

Christa - That's really sweet, thank you! Haha, yeah, I saw her mention it and I knew a challenge had been presented. Instantly, Challenge Accepted. Anyway, thanks again!

JillStengl - Thank you so much! It means a lot!

Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement!

Blessings,
Melanie

Meredith said...

To Ms. Ellen, (the creator of the movie).

I do not have an account on YouTube, but I wanted to comment on your movie and answer a question raised by some of the commentors on your channel.

The movie blows me away every time I listen to it. Outstanding job, and I love the voices. Did you do all the voices? You did very well.

People asked whose voice was in the background. The dragon's name was Diarmid before he was kissed by the Dragon King. Aethelbald still calls him by his name, even if Diarmid no longer recognizes his own true name. That's one of my favorite scenes in the whole book, so poignant. I liked how you did his voice, harsh yet strangely vulnerable.

Keep up the outstanding work and God bless you.

Kathleen said...

Thank you everyone it means a lot :) I really hope that someone else wins though cause everyone else is sooooo talented. mabye when I'm older like 16 I might do better. Hannah is amazing, and gwens work is absolutely breathtaking. May God bless you all, talented poeple and may a amazing plan be set before you
- Kathleen.

Hannah said...

Kathleen, your work already IS AMAZING! You're not even 16 yet??? The concept, design, and perspective is brilliant. "When You Imagine" was one of my personal favorites in this contest! Definitely keep up the hard work!

Kathleen said...

I'm 13 Turing 14 in October. Thank you so ugh I think you really deserved to win becuase i was awesome :)

Kathleen said...

Oh my gosh, I spell mistake
*thank you so much
* you were awesome
Sorry

SaraLyn said...

wow no kidding your work is amazing i never would have guessed you were that young considering how well done your drawings are, keep up the good work, by the way who is the youngest artist here anyways? (just curious)

Molly said...

I'm three months younger than Kathleen....I might be the youngest but I haven't any idea if I really am. ;)

SaraLyn said...

Cool, so do you two know each other or something? I couldn't draw as awesome as you girls when i was 13 (im 15 now) but i think the longer you draw the more techniques you pick up and the better you get at drawing stuff.
