A Question . . .

So I have a question for all of you. I am putting together plans for the next couple of giveaways. And I was noticing all over again how many of you are writers! Would there be interest among you for a Fan Fiction contest in the spirit of the Fan Art contest recently hosted?

Fan fiction would include all sorts of fiction: short stories, poetry, vignettes, etc. Comics, even! An opportunity for you to express yourselves creatively in the written word and possibly win free books (including Starflower) in the process!

If I get at least six responses, I'll host it this summer. What do you think? Are you interested?

Yeah! Does that mean I can resubmit Felix? :)
I think it would be very cool to see what everyone comes up with... I think you should do it!

I would love to do it! That would be so much fun, especially since I absolutely LOVE to write!! :)

Oh yes please!! My artistic medium tends toward wordsmithy, not...y'know, actual art.

And there is nothing more fun than reading other writers' entries. :)

Just noticed what you're reading, too. Sabatini is one of my favorites; if you haven't read "Scaramouche" and you enjoy "Captain Blood", you should read that next. :)

Yay! Fun to see all these excited responses! I got an email from another interested writer as well, so just two more, and we'll be a go for this contest. :)

@ Anna C. -- Well, fan fiction is supposed to be original content, so I think you'd need to come up with your Felix story to submit for this one. While your art work is original, the story you told with it was from mine. But I'm sure you could come up with something Felix-centered of your own, creative cookie that you are! Perhaps a fencing lesson? Or something to do with his crush on Imraldera? :) I'm excited to see more of your comics . . . they were my favorites!

@ Molly -- And we love those who love to write here on this blog! :)

@ Rachel -- I'm excited to get a taste of your writing!

I have actually read "Scaramouche" and REALLY liked it. "Captain Blood" is a new one for me, and I'm excited to experience some more Sabatini. He's one of my swashbuckling husband's favorites. :)

I would LOVE to win one of your books. I've started trying to write a book (my first) and I think it's going to turn out to be a long one. Would it be ok if I just put in the first bit or so?

I will post the rules on Monday if there is enough interest. Because it's a "fan fiction" contest, it would need to be fiction set in the world of Goldstone Wood somehow, so sadly, not from your novel. You would have to invent a plot and characters (or use some of my characters) to tell a Goldstone Wood story.

But that gives me an idea for perhaps hosting an "original fiction" contest one of these days as well! :)

Yay! I'm so excited! I would love to do one set from your books. I've always wanted to do that! :)

I didn't know there was a Captain Blood book! I've only ever seen the Errol Flynn movie. I'll have to add that to my 'To Read' list :)

I would love to do an "original fiction" :)

Oh dear. I write non-stop, but I doubt I'm as good as everyone else who comments on this blog. BUT! I will do my best!

YAY!!!! I am ALL IN. :)

Hmmm. I'll have to think about what I can write... I'm better at editing than writing.
Is there going to be a maximum length?

Anne Elisabeth Stengl said...

@Anna C. - Yes, there will be a maximum length. Due to the interest shown here, I will post all the details (rules, prizes, deadlines etc.) tomorrow!

Looking forward to seeing what everyone produces! :)

@ Clara - No worries! I'm sure your work is as lovely as you are. :)

ooooh fanfiction! (don't mind me, just a random pesserbyer) so if one would be interested in such a contest, would it need to be about/based on your book or could it be about any sort of fiction? Because if that's so, I have one posted up on fanfiction.net named, "Of Silver Flame and Golden Rose." It's based off the hobbit If you get a chance, check it out and lemme know. Thanks! Good luck to all fwllow writers!
