I really enjoyed "Orphan's Song", and so did my girls. She has an "earthy" feel and makes you feel part of the action sequences.

While I do adore tales of Goldstone Wood and the Dragon gives me shivers, I must say my favorite rendition of a dragon in literature would be Smaug.
Ooh, I am so excited for this book! I follow Gillian Bronte Adams' blog, and I really enjoy reading her posts, so I'm sure her books are just as enjoyable.

As for my favorite literary dragon, I would have to say Smaug, because he is classic, and Anne Elisabeth's The Dragon, because she characterized him so well.
I've been so excited for this book for such a long time!!! Hmm, favorite dragon? Well, I love Smaug, but my favorite now is probably Hri Sora, the Dragonwitch!!!!
Personally, I like the dragons in my my own story the best, lol.

Favorite dragon. I'm so behind with stories featuring dragons, but I've read a few. Haven't read many stories with "good" dragons, but I know they abound. I still like the idea of dragons as classically evil for some reason. Besides all the dragon characters in Goldstone Wood, for whom I feel tremendous sympathy, (Rhi Sora especially), I'd say my favorite dragon is Vollys from Gail Carson Levine's The Two Princesses of Bamarre. She's evil and very lonely. She also has some humor.

As for dragons... I enjoy reading about them however they're portrayed. Bad creatures (The Hobbit)... symbolizing a greater evil (Tales of Goldstone Wood)... or just intriguing, winged animals that fantasy characters ride (Ilyon Chronicles), :)

I love the cover of "Out of Darkness Rising", it is beautiful and intense. Congratulations! I haven't read any of Gillian's books yet but I want too.
I can't remember everything about it but I loved the series called "The Door Within" by Wayne Thomas Batson. It was filled with mystical creatures and dragons. I just started reading "The Hobbit" but from seeing the movies I think that Smaug is a good example of a scary but intriguing villain. And of course I love Anne Stengl's rendition of dragons in her book "Heartless". :)

As for my favorite dragons, I've always been partial to the dragons found in Donita K. Paul's Dragon Keeper Chronicles. What's not to like about dragons that could fit in your pocket? Lol :-)

Oh, dragons, where do I start? I enjoy nearly every one I've come across! Many of the already mentioned ones make my top favorites list...the Goldstone Wood dragons, including THE Dragon; Smaug; Vollys... I also love Clefspeare (Dragons in Our Midst), Eustace as a dragon, and Saphira of the Inheritance Cycle is pretty good too. I also happen to love my own written dragons as well. :)
Anyway, this book looks amazing, and I'm eager to get my hands on it!

Favorite dragons... hmmm... well, in a cop-out answer, I am fairly partial to my own dragons. Particularly Yole.
In other literature, well, of course there's Smaug. I love the dragons from the Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. And I LOVE Kazul in The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede.
I also enjoy the dragons of the Goldstone Wood, of course, but they're so evil it's hard to LOVE them... it's more of a deliciously creepy, yikes! sort of appreciation than love. :)

Good dragons:
Well, I've always liked Cornelia Funke's dragons (as far as I can remember, they're all good dragons.) And Donita K. Paul's Bridger is tremendously endearing, along with all of the minor dragons. Those are all the good ones I can think of...oh, and of course, Toothless. :)
Bad dragons:
Smaug, Death-in-Life, Flame of Night, and Shruikan. To name just a few. ;)
I haven't read Orphan's Song yet (though I would love to :)). Is it necessary to read Orphan's Song before Out of Darkness Rising?

@ Meredith: As far as challenges go, yes, I hit a few while writing Out of Darkness Rising. I originally wrote it as a short story and then realized there was more of the story I wanted to tell, but expanding it from a short story to a novella was a bit of a new challenge for me.
Picking a favorite character is always hard for me. I think I'll have to say Hadriel. She has such a fierce, adventure seeking spirit, but her desire for absolute freedom comes at a price. It's something I can relate to as well as I sometimes struggle with taming my desire for freedom and control of my own life with yielding to the Lord's guidance.
@Michelle Dyck: I love the cover! We came across the cover artist through a 99designs contest where he goes by the name Darko Tomic. Out of Darkness Rising is not related to the Songkeeper Chronicles, but I am working on the next book in that series right now. :)
@Merenwen: It's not necessary to read Orphan's Song first. Out of Darkness Rising is a standalone, so the two books aren't connected in any way. :)

I'm always keeping an eye out for good Christian fantasy and this book sounds -- and looks -- fantastic.
Probably my favorite dragon in literature would be Smaug in The Hobbit. He made me shiver with delicious fear when I was a child. Also Eustace-dragon.... And then, of course, there's my own race of dragons... ^_^
