Rooglewood Press's 2nd Fairy Tale Collection

Dear readers, the time has come at last to reveal the 2nd of Rooglewood Press's fairy tale collections. Behold!

Five Enchanted Roses
a collection of “Beauty and the Beast” stories

The challenge is to write a retelling of the beloved fairy tale in any genre or setting you like. Make certain your story is recognizably “Beauty and the Beast,” but have fun with it as well. Make it yours!

Rooglewood Press will be selecting five winners to be published in the Five Enchanted Roses collection, which will be packaged up with the gorgeous cover you see here. Perhaps your name will be one of the five displayed on this cover?

All the contest rules and information (how to enter, story details, deadline etc.) may be found on the Rooglewood Press website. Just click HERE and you will go right to the page.

Rooglewood Press’s first collection, Five Glass Slippers, is available for pre-order now and will be released on June 14. Do grab yourself a copy and see what these talented writers have done with the timeless “Cinderella” tale!

You can tell others about this writing opportunity by sharing the blog button on your blog or even posting it on Facebook or Twitter. Just be sure to include the link to the rules page!

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this cover image, which was created by the ever-brilliant Julia Popova, or "ForestGirl." Be sure to look up her website and like her on Facebook.

So what do you think, dear readers and writers? Have you been brainstorming fairy tale retelling ideas already? Did you guess (or at least suspect) I would be picking Beauty and the Beast, which is possibly the most well-loved fairy tale of all time? I know it's one of my personal favorites, and I can hardly wait to see what stories all of you invent. I was completely amazed by the submissions sent in for Five Glass Slippers, and I anticipate that this year will be even more fantastic.

If you have any questions not covered in the clarifications section of the rules page, feel free to ask them below. I am happy to further clarify things for you.

And I'll be watching for your submission forms and looking forward to reading your tales!

Beauty and the Beast has never been my favorite Fairy Tale, but I shall endeavor to come up with something, even if it involves mixing it with another fairy tale. That is a lovely cover!

So exciting! Thought either the tale would be "Beauty and the Beast" or "Snow White". Am so looking forward to revamping a Beauty and the Beast tale I've worked on before. It needs some extensive revisions, but I'm excited to get that opportunity.

God bless.

My brother and I both suspected it would be Beauty and the Beast! I feel like this particular tale has plenty of room for creative interpretation... :) I've commenced the percolating stage of writing already!

I was very supprised, I thought it might be something like Little Red Riding Hood. This sounds fun though, I'd better think of something. I do love retellings of fairy tales. I know a good author who does alot of those.

Totally cool cover! I am super excited, and have a question.
Are you looking for parallels to the ORIGINAL Beauty and the Beast story, or the Disney version? That could affect how I'm going to write this thing...
Because they are REALLY different.

Original:
Beast is a kind prince who was cursed because he refused to marry some witch. (who turns out to be some relation of his)
Belle is the unselfish daughter of a wealthy merchant, who has many other children. The others don't like Belle because she's not like them, and they continually beg him for the newest clothing, etc.

Disney:
Beast is a selfish prince who turned away a "beggar" woman and is cursed until he learns to love, and is loved back in spite of his appearance.
Belle is the only attractive girl in town, loves books, and has a crazy buff dude (who loves to expectorate :) ) trying to get her to marry him.

Which one are you looking for?
Thanks!

Good question! Since this is a retelling, we are a looking for all of the above. Every version of "Beauty and the Beast" is up for grabs, including the classic fairy tale, the Disney movie, the older myths from which the fairy tale stems . . . all of them! As long as the "Beauty and the Beast" theme is recognizable, the retelling can go in whatever direction best suits the story! Make sense?

I'll look forward to seeing your take on the tale!

There are three out - Five Magic Spindles is the third, Sleeping Beauty, and the first was Five Glass Slippers, Cinderella.

And there will be one more, or so I've heard, but its title and tale have not yet been announced.
