Cover Reveal: THE SEAHORSE LEGACY

Dear imps, I'm sure many of you are already familiar with Serena Chase and her epic fairy tale retellings. Therefore, I know you will be excited to learn that she has a new book releasing very soon now . . . and this one looks to be the most fantastic yet! Behold:

a Pirate
bound by a centuries-old oath

a Knight
determined to prove her calling

a Legacy
demanding surrender

As Keeper of the Seahorse Legacy, Cazien de Pollis is a King among pirates, divinely appointed to dispense justice on the seas. Bound by the sacred oath of a long-dead ancestor, he must fulfill a contract to wed the green-eyed Oracle’s Daughter named therein—or risk losing everything he and his people hold dear. But at nineteen, with the identity of his betrothed only recently revealed, Cazien resents the contract—and the urgency within him to see it satisfied.

Erielle de Gladiel returned from the quest for the Remedy, changed. Not only are her formerly-blue eyes now a brilliant shade of green, but she must don gloves to hide inky evidence that her prophetically-bestowed title, the Oracle’s Daughter, demands more from her than the task already completed. Erielle’s dearest-held dream is realized when she is knighted by her King, but unbeknownst to her, that very honor jeopardizes the prophesied purpose to which she and Cazien have been called.

Just as Cazien summons the courage to collect his bride, dark rumors and darker deeds crawl up the coasts, calling its guardians, the Seahorse Pirates, into action—and Cazien away from Erielle. But even though the Oracle’s Daughter knows nothing of the contract to which she has been consigned, Cazien’s enemies have somehow learned of his interest in Erielle. And if they reach her before his ancestor’s weighty oath is executed, the Seahorse Legacy will be forfeited . . . and darkness will be given reign.

Subtly paying homage to several classic tales including Peter Pan, Robin Hood, The Little Mermaid, Much Ado About Nothing, and even The Three Little Bears, THE SEAHORSE LEGACY begins an epic re-imagining of the classic Grimm fairy tale, The Twelve Dancing Princesses which will conclude in Eyes of E’veria, Book 4: THE SUNKEN REALM.

I love pirate stories!
My favorite fictional pirate is probably Captain Killian Jones/Hook from the tv show Once upon a Time.
Thanks for this awesome giveaway Anne Elisabeth!!!

Ooh! What a fantastically intriguing story! Thank-you so much for sharing it with us, Mrs. Stengl, and thank-you for hosting the giveaway, Selena. :)

Pirate stories have always been fascinating to me, much to my chagrin. Where I would once have claimed Cat (Isle of Swords) or Will Turner (Pirates of the Carribbean) as my favorite (very reluctant) pirates, Killian Jones of Once Upon a Time is rapidly worming his way into my affections. xp

Hmm this sounds interesting. I've not really been into pirate stories. Actually, not sure I've read any...the ones I've come across (in books anyway) tend to end up having well...stuff I don't care for in my novels. As for favorite pirate...hate to be repetitive here but, like it has been said, the one in Once Upon a Time is definitely my favorite at the moment. Love the ones who try to be all big and bad to hide their soft underbelly (I'm such a sucker, I know *wink*). =o) Thanks for the giveaway and introduction to this author! On my way to check out the other books in this series. =o)

How can I have forgotten the short-lived but surely most awesome Dread Pirate Roberts of the pirate ship Revenge?? WESLEY (The Princess Bride) is without a doubt my all-time favorite pirate! x)

I don't read pirate stories much, but when I do, I really enjoy them. My favorite pirate character would have to be Captain Jack Sparrow(Pirates of the Caribbean) for the the movie side, and Cat for the book side.
I can't wait for this book! It sounds amazing!! :D

Fantastic cover! I'm so excited for Erielle & Cazien's story. And I agree that I very much see Killian Jones/Hook as Cazien ;)

Well, I was going to say that I don't read pirate stories much (what with some real-life pirates being some of the most hideous criminals ever)...but then I started realizing that there are several pirates I did like.

I thought Captain Jack Sparrow for the movies...then someone had to go mention Westly, who might top that. Of course, I love Cazien, and he might be my favorite, but I'll leave him out for this. So book-wise, I was thinking Cat (Isle of Swords, Isle of Fire), and then there was the mad hare from Redwall's High Rhulain...and Westly again...

I need to find a way to read these books. *goes to add them to Amazon wishlist* BTW, is The Remedy available in paperback? Or just for the Kindle?

I love pirate stories, though I don't read nearly as many as I'd like. They're exciting, and there's something about the high seas that makes books just a little more awesome.

My favorite pirate is probably Declan Ross from Wayne Thomas Batson's Pirate Adventure books.

Thanks for the giveaways!

How exciting! And what a wonderful giveaway!

I have always loved the fun "lore" of pirates (not their heinous acts). I have a few pirate costumes that I love wearing.

I especially love stories involving Pirates. One of my favorite children's books is "Mystery of Skull Island." But in that book, the pirates are definitely the villains.

I agree with imps above that my favorite movie/television pirate is Captain Hook in Once Upon a Time (I'm not fond of the character Captain Hook in any other story he is involved in). In Once Upon a Time, Hook--like Cazien--is a pirate who definitely has a good heart!

Oh, I enjoy pirate stories! They're adventurous and fun most of the time, whether the pirates are good guys, or bad!
As for a favorite pirate...I'm not really sure. I like the heroes in Marylu Tyndall's pirate stories! :)
Thanks for the giveaway, Serena!! Your books look and sound fascinating, and I can't wait to try them out!! :)

I absolutely love Pirates, although I haven't really read any Pirate fiction I can think of, my son and I are huge Pirate fans! I would love to get a good start somewhere reading Pirate fiction, and this series is definitely a place I would love to start! :)

Anonymous said...

I haven't actually read a pirate novel! The only author I know that writes about pirates is MaryLu and I have only read one of her books! However I am REALLY interested in this novel and want to read it! Planning on putting this one on my wishlist!

I don't have a favorite pirate that I can think of at the moment!

Deborah O'Carroll said...

Oh yes, I LOVE pirate stories! I even have a "pirate" shelf on Goodreads. ;) I love sea-tales full of adventure, and I especially love the time-period most pirate tales are set in, because I love the 1700s-ish feel and the pistols and muskets and tri-cornered hats and coats! :D

My favorite fictional pirate in a book would have to be Tamo from "The Pirate's Son" by Geraldine McCaughrean. I don't know why but I simply adore that book/character. Unless Peter Pan (in "Peter Pan in Scarlet", also by McCaughrean) counts since sometimes he pretends to be like Hook. ;) Although... seeing everyone mention Isle of Swords has made me remember how awesome Cat is too!) Favorite pirate in a movie would probably be Westley or Will or Captain Jack. :D

Wow, what fun questions! I love pirate stuff! ^_^

This book sounds so interesting, and I've heard good things of other books in the series, so I'll have to check them out at some point! (It's just killing me I'm not on facebook or twitter so I can only comment. :P)

And THE TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES!!! Oh my goodness, I'm even MORE obsessed with that story than with pirates! I can't wait to check out another retelling of it! :) :)

Clara said...

I have actually NEVER heard of these retellings! They sound fantastic, and I love the new cover. Must own this series!

Clara said...

Ooops, I forgot to mention a favorite pirate! Cap. Jack hands down!

Hannah said...

@Clara: I think her writing style will really appeal to you! Reminds me of Robin McKinley, in a way. :)

Serena Chase said...

Okay, not gonna lie: that comparison to Robin McKinley dropped my jaw, Hannah! I adore Robin's books--especially The Blue Sword (it may even be my fave book ever.)Thank you!

It's also terribly fun to see Cazien compared to Killian Jones (Hook on Once Upon a Time) -- I adore him! There have been some moments while watching the show with my daughers that Hook opens his mouth and it almost sounds like a line Cazien had in The Ryn or The Remedy. (those pirates are a charming lot, aren't they?)and I grin a little bit bigger (I can't help but grin like a fool every time he comes on screen!) And when Ariel came on screeb last night, putting a knife to Killian's neck, I about jumped out of my chair, because that is totally something my Erielle would do (though she is not a mermaid, even part time, lol!)

Of course I also LOVE the Dread Pirate Roberts/Westley from The Princess Bride, and Captain Jack Sparrow. *sighs*

You guys have given me some great sounding books to add to my piratical reading list AFTER I finish writing The Sunken Realm!

Thanks so much for all the comments coming in so far, the Tweets, and the "likes" on my FB page! I'm looking forward to sharing this story with you!

{hugs}
Serena

I'd have to agree with many of the others - Killian Jones (aka: Hook) from Once Upon a Time is probably my favorite pirate... well, him or Jack Sparrow... and I like them because I find them very funny. :)

P.S. - I'm very excited about this book! It sounds so intriguing!!! :) :)

I really like the cover, I cannot wait to read it! I don't read many pirate stories, but this one looks so good. I think I like Captain Jack Sparrow the best, he is a stereotypical pirate without being so raunchy. I also like Hook from Once Upon A Time because Colin O'Donoghue is really good looking in eyeliner.

Becky said...

Well, I must admit that I've been kind of a stick-in-the-mud when it comes to pirates, just ask my now grown kids. I'm sure when I was young I saw them in some black and white movie that left me equating them with the worst of modern day terrorizing criminals to whom women and children would be doomed. Which, of course was true, but I am discovering that in the fantastical world there are some kind-hearted charmers in the lot. I mean, who wouldn't be charmed by Dread Pirate Robert (Wesley version), Will Turner, the very real Sir Francis Drake or The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything? Tonight for my favorite I will pick the "as you wish" Dread Pirate Roberts.

I'm looking forward to reading your story Ms, Chase. It sounds very adventurous.

I love all books that include pirates!!! :) I am sooooo excited to read this book... I feel like I have been waiting forever!!! Love the cover!!!!

Hannah said...

@Serena: The first book I read, I was strongly reminded of her books such as Chalice, Beauty, Spindle's End, and such! Descriptive, detailed, gently carrying the reader down a literary stream of beauty. :) OH! Oh! The Blue Sword is one of my favorites too! That awesome Corlath! =P

Anything about pirates immediately grabs my attention! I would love to win this book!

Missy said...

Does my own fictional pirate character count? If so his name is Antony and he is awesome!(Just sayin':D) If I had to choose one that is more familiar though, than it would be Barbarossa from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Becky said...

@Missy: your answer made me smile, as you and your family always do.

Beth said...

I love do like pirate stories! I think my two favorite TV pirates right now are Hook from Once Upon a Time & Captain Jack Sparrow :)

Cazien, of course, is a favorite book pirate as I haven't read too many books that feature pirate heroes.

Hannah said...

@Missy: Of course it would be Barbarossa. I'm surprised it wasn't Davy Jones...

;)

Galadriel said...

Generally not a fan of pirate stories, but I'm willing to give it a try

Galadriel said...

I guess Captain Hook from Peter Pan

Liz R said...

LOVE the cover and am excited for this book! So many good fairytale influences!

My favorite pirates would probably have to be Captain Barbossa and Captain Hook from Once Upon A Time.

Missy said...

Awwww :D Thank you!

Missy said...

Haha! :D I actually completely forgot about him! But I still think Barbarossa is my favorite! Besides my own characters of course! ;)
