Braille Editions!

Dear readers, I am so pleased to officially announce the Braille editions of the first few Tales of Goldstone Wood!

A few months back, I began corresponding with our own favorite Goldstone Wood Imp, Meredith. Meredith, who is blind, graciously introduced me to her favorite Braille transcriptionist, Laurie, and exciting things began to happen soon after. Laurie felt led to offer Braille copies of the Tales of Goldstone Wood to a larger audience of readers. After several weeks and months of negotiations, a couple of signed contracts later, she had the rights to transcribe all of the stories!

And now both Heartless and Veiled Rose are available to Braille readers, with Moonblood and Starflower following very soon. You can have a look at Laurie's business here. Isn't this exciting?

If you have any visually impaired friends, do please pass on this information. Braille transcriptions of novels can be very expensive, but Laurie is offering these at a much more affordable price. And I am just thrilled to know that a whole new set of readers will now have access to my stories . . . and to the charming, blind Eanrin!

What do you think, my friends? Are you excited?

Hi. Just saw this post. Thanks so very much for getting the word out about this outstanding news! I read Veiled Rose for the first time in Braille last weekend, and I picked up on a lot I'd missed when I first had it read aloud to me. Mind you, the time spent with my mom reading Veiled Rose was a true blessing, but now I can read to her my favorite scenes. Mrs. Laurie, (the transcriber), even puts detailed descriptions of the front cover pictures in the books, so I can visualize how the themes are depicted in picture form. I'm supposed to be receiving Moonblood within the next few days. Having to carve out some time, because once I start reading a particular installment in the series, I cannot stop. God bless you all.

Have received the Braille version of Moonblood and am devouring it. Wow! What a wonderful story so far! I'm loving learning more about the Wood Between and the Far World. Loving Sir Eanrin, of course. The ego on that man/cat! Ha! The unicorn is such an unusual character. So far, I feel so sorry for him. What a chilling yet sad creature. King Vahe? And here I thought the Dragon King was the ultimate evil in Goldstone Wood. Perhaps I was wrong. I mean, to kill your own mother at the age of seven? Okay, maybe she wasn't the greatest role model, but that's beside the point. I'm also loving getting a deeper glimpse of characters I'd thought were totally evil, particularly Sir diarmid. I love how each character is so multi-layered and how you emphasize the truth that all of us can so easily choose to do evil. We have to acknowledge our fallibility in order to receive deliverance. My favorite part of the story so far concerns a scene featuring Lionheart's sword, Bloodbiter's Wrath, but I won't say anything in case others haven't read the book. God bless.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Let us know when you're finished!

Just finished Moonblood and, as with the previous stories in this series, I am truly amazed by the complexity and beauty. I can't say all I want to say here for fear of inadvertently leaving spoilers for others. Sufficit to say that I absolutely loved everything about the story, particularly the fact that I learned much more about the Far World. I loved the story of Hymlume and her children and want desperately to know more. How, for instance, did the Dragon manage to poison her children? Why was he allowed access to her garden?
I loved Felix's role in this story as well and Lionheart's journey. Some, (like the Poet Sir Eanrin), might not have been satisfied with the particular ending, but I think it was perfect. And, speaking of Sir Eanrin, I definitely love his humor, and he seems to be a true hero. Methinks there is a lot between him and Dame Imraldera that I have yet to discover. Perhaps he is not as infatuated with Lady Gleamdren as he would have us believe. I also loved the role of Aethelbald in this story as well, of course. I definitely plan to read the book again, because I know I'll pick up on lots of things I missed. And, I retract my statement about Vahe. He's horrible yet pitiable. I cannot muster empathy for the Dragon King unless Mrs. Stengl reveals more about him that I do not know. I'm sure she will.
Moonblood was an outstanding book. Thanks so very much for writing it. God bless you all.

@Meredith: I'm SO glad to hear you got to read MOONBLOOD! :D I really loved writing that story (especially Eanrin, who is my all-time favorite). I just love hearing from readers who are getting to experience it for the first time. And I particularly love hearing from such a thoughtful and insightful reader as yourself!

I hope you will enjoy STARFLOWER as soon as it releases in Braille. Blessings!

To Mrs. Stengl:

My computer is acting insanely, so I do not know if you received an email from me. I simply wanted to tell you that I have finished the Braille addition of Starflower. I am truly stunned by the sheer beauty, the magnificent heroism exhibited by the characters, and the enthralling imagery. God has truly blessed you with a gift. Thank you for using it for His glory. I loved learning Dame Imraldera's back story. How utterly fascinating! Eanrin's development was simply superb, and I can just visualize his jauntiness and true nature underneath. What can I say about Lady Gleamdren? Totally different from what I expected. I'll bet you had loads of fun writing those scenes! It's the mark of a true writer who can have me in stitches one moment, cowering with fear the next and then blubbering like a baby. My word! And, is there no end to the villains you can create? What inspired Amarok in your mind? What a truly frightening monster, yet, when his true name was revealed, my goodness! Thank you for the gift of this unforgettable story. Incidentally, "The Hound of Heaven" is one of my absolute favorite poems as well.

Your novel will not leave my mind, and it nagged at me for so much on Saturday night that a story germinated. Talk about being hounded! I had to write the story yesterday in order to shift my focus to the mundane tasks of Monday. Thanks for that, though.

God bless you.
