I am very curious how she took the fairy tales and rewrote them. I will be adding these books to my to-read list.

Thanks again!J. L. Although I figured out the culprit fairly quickly, it was really clever how the author made all the characters modern yet strangely reminiscent of the fairy tale characters. I also loved the references to poetry and the idea of how we're meant to be something greater than what first appears. Bear was adorable, the ideal person that anyone would love to get to know, and I really related to Blanche. So excited to read Black as Night, her retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Thanks again for featuring Ms. Doman. I have a special fondness for fairy tales that are set in the modern-day world, so I try to recommend her to everyone I know!Petrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13155924019089937579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7102067376746188002.post-56169561939916871472013-05-20T22:06:39.402-04:002013-05-20T22:06:39.402-04:00I'm discovering new authors all the time, and ...I'm discovering new authors all the time, and my "to-read" list is growing in leaps and bounds, thanks to blogs such as this.

So glad that authors of speculative fiction are dealing frankly with serious issues that affect our society. This Rapunzel novel sounds very interesting, and I like that she's approaching the tale from the prince's perspective. Frankly, the prince's actions always disturbed me in the original Grimm's tale anyway, and so did the actions of Rapunzel's parents. I actually always felt a little sorry for the witch, (but Donna Jo Napoli has already examined her feelings in the phenomenal novel, Zel). I think I'll try the Snow White and Rose Red story first just to get a taste of Ms. Regina's writing style before moving on to the heavier book.

I appreciate the cautionary note and can relate to Ms. Doman's dilemma. The fantasy novel I am writing right now actually deals with the theme of sexual abuse. I won't go into detail, but I totally understand the conflict when writing. Some ideas hit you with magnum force and, even when you try to repress them, they won't go away until you write them down. It's amazing how God gives different ideas that He wants us to explore. Thanks again for featuring this author. I'm really excited. The Shadow of the Bear and Alex O'Donnell are, I believe, the most light-hearted and fun. I love them all, but I think you'd especially love those two books. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13171567731644896572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7102067376746188002.post-23171908547467619432013-05-20T19:18:52.548-04:002013-05-20T19:18:52.548-04:00@Hannah - Definitely read Regina Doman's earli...@Hannah - Definitely read Regina Doman's earlier books. :) They are worth it, and though they do deal with hard topics, she doesn't go into too much detail with anything.
I will say that "Rapunzel" was very hard to read because it was so sad, but the ending was beautiful. It is extremely kind and thoughtful.

I know some writers might write about some of these issues with the good intentions of teaching how to go beyond such problems of life, but for the more innocent readers, reading about such things are problems in themselves.

I agree that this story could be very encouraging to the right people, and I'm so glad you're heralding the fact that it is a for a specific audience.
God bless you for your consideration!

I might try the book Anne read! They are so wonderful they're one of the few books (along with your own, of course) that I bring along with me to university, where there's very little room on the bookshelves! I hope the other Imps check out her stories and garner as much from them as I have, if not more. :)

--BekaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13171567731644896572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7102067376746188002.post-80280262728760148882013-05-20T07:40:10.491-04:002013-05-20T07:40:10.491-04:00Oh hurrah!
